Cara Lestenkof-Madregan, AKPIRC Partner in Learning Award Winner Stephanie Mandregan and AKPIRC staffers Julie Staley and Karin Halpin
During the Bilingual Multicultural Education/Equity Conference in Anchorage last month, AKPIRC staffers presented Stephanie Mandregan of St. Paul Island with the AKPIRC Partner in Learning Award. Ms. Mandregan was selected from a field of 12 parents from across the state who were nominated for this award for their outstanding parent engagement practices at school, at home, and in the community.
Pribilof School District Superintendent Jamie Stacks nominated Ms. Mandregan for her commitment to supporting her children’s education both at home and at school. Stephanie has three children in school – a preschooler, an 8th grader, and a senior in high school. Stephanie is involved in all of their classes, attends parent/teacher conferences, and all school activities (from Saturday reading at the library events to bake sales for the basketball team). Stephanie also participates and coordinates community events and is a member of the Pribilof School District Board of Education and attends School/Community Partnership meetings. Through her involvement in the community cultural dance group, Ms. Mandregan instills in her children a love of the Aleut culture.
Along with the AKPIRC Partner in Learning Award, Ms. Mandregan received an expense-paid trip to the Bilingual Multicultural Education and Equity Conference in Anchorage, and $250 to purchase books/resources for her children’s school library or family resource room.
AKPIRC wishes to recognize the outstanding parents throughout the state who were nominated for this award: Carrie Nose from Akiachak; Debbie Yeagar, Kimberly Lopez and Elliot Hardy from Fairbanks; Julie West, Shawnie Fitzgerald and Rochelle Wilhelm from Anchorage; Amanda Huston from Palmer, Joe and Linda Oney from Pitkas Point; Kathi Jurva from Yukon-Koyukuk; and Katie Mobley from Wasilla.
Congratulations Stephanie!
